Have a look at the attached Footbridge 2008 Awards by Bridge Design and Engineering magazine. It has lots of pretty photos and gives a good overview of the current state-of-the-art. Note that a footbridge in Maribor, Slovenia won an award (page 14). Also note that a structural engineering firm based out of Maribor has an advertisement on page 19.

siiick thanks scott. maribor is stoked on foot bridges i guess.
i just had a walk with my parents across a new stress-ribbon bridge. is that a thing? nothing too fancy but nice and simple. i'll post photos when they're downloaded.
oh and i pulled some pages from the pdf to post here. hope thats alright!
Yes, stress ribbon bridges are very nice. There is supposedly only one in all the USA (congrats for walking over it!) and they are building the second one right now in North Carolina.
They seem to be popular in eastern Europe and I think the concept may have originated in Czech Republic.
